Sarah Buchner is a vocalist and composer based in Denmark. Her music deals with the mutability of the human voice. In her improvisations/compositions she strives to transform the voice from an individually recognizable speech sound to an anonymous, scenic sound source. She works mostly acoustically and mixes the sound of spaces with close-up microphones that make the music appear “close to the ear”. Sonically, she is influenced by electronic music and ASMR.
Her debut album girls choir (ILK, 2024) is a surrealistic sound collage of hundreds of different vocal recordings.
Since 2021, she has combined her vocal music with the animation of puppets, figures and objects. The figures provide visual characters for abstract sounds and their movements are understood as musical material. The results are dark, absurd and sometimes humorous approaches to contemporary puppet theater.

Sarah Buchner is part of the Danish musicians' collective ILK and a member of the self-conducted Wolfskin Ensemble. In 2024 she performed at the MINU Festival for extended Music Copenhagen, the Rendered.Voice Festival Lund, the Blurred Edges Festival for contemporary music Hamburg and for the Vox.Lab Oslo - Association for the Promotion of New Norwegian Vocal Music. Sarah Buchner studied at the Hochschule für Musik Würzburg, the Hochschule für Tanz und Musik Köln and the Rhythmic Music Conservatory Copenhagen.

"This world is like an investigating and yet surreal daydream, not promising you anything but a drip of instant joy and the naivety of playing: Sarah Buchner’s handheld puppets on stage are telling stories about relations
but also about destruction of common beauty.
All along the little main characters are accompanied by an outer edge of human vocals adding a strong touch of the bizarre. This daydream might be real."
